The Kookaburra 2014 Range - Our View

Today we had a look at the new range from Kookaburra for the 2014 season and we were pleased and excited with what we saw.

The Bubble Returns

The biggest highlight of the range would have to be the return of the Bubble range, not just a bat, but a range of bats with pads, gloves and even a bag to complete this much spoken about retro range from Kookaburra.

The Bubble was originally used in the 1990's by players such as Graham Thorpe, Alec Stewart and Sanath Jayasuriya and we are sure that they would be happy with the current Bubble range. The new bat has the original Kookaburra Bubble look about it but with an enlarged profile and great balance and will be available in 4 models retailing from £100 up to £500 with a junior option at £150. The pads and gloves compliment the bats superbly with comprehensive protection and the distinctive Bubble image. The pads retails at £90 for the Bubble Legend and £50 for the Bubble Star, and the gloves retail at £70 and £40 respectively. No range is complete without a holdall and the Bubble holdall offers lots of pockets, including a full length bat pocket. It may be a little small for a holdall that will retail at £70 but it looks superb, is functional and will catch the eye.

An Impulse Buy?

The new Impulse range will be used by Ian Bell this winter in the upcoming Ashes series down under and its striking cosmetics and tremendous balance and profile will make the bat a sure fire success. The range is complemented by a traditional range of softs at very competitive price points ranging from £80 and £60 for the Impulse 950 pads and gloves to £45 and £35 for the entry level Impulse 400's.

A Menacing Sight

The Menace range of bats has been cut right back for 2014 and features just 2 models which we may struggle to get through the door! The Menace T20 and Ultra Menace are simply enormous and will provide a great option for the big hitters who have the strength to deal with one. The price of these bats doesn't break the bank either at £135 and £185 respectively.

Kahuna and Ricochet

The Ricochet was a huge success in 2013 and we are certain that this will continue in 2014 with the bat range remaining largely the same with an excellent cosmetic overhaul. The Kahuna continues for a straight 10th consecutive season in 2014 and looks as strong as ever, it will be interesting to see if a range that has gone 'hand in hand' with Ricky Ponting's career continues to have the same success now that the legendary cricketer has retired.

Other Thoughts On The Range

There are a fair few other highlights in the Kookaburra range for this coming season, none more than the new luggage range which features the brilliant new Pro Combi bag which will retail at £80. There is a new striking colourway available in 3 of the bags which is Black, Blue and Yellow and works really well. The footwear range features the excellent Pro 500 dual option shoe which retails at £40 and features a great new look to go with its excellent specification. The range ofwicket keeping gloves is a little disappointing at the top end, but the K1000 glove won't be bettered, and the K1000 keeping pad continues to offer everything a keeper requires at £40.

The new Kookaburra range will be available to view on our website towards the end of September and we will be hand selecting our bats at Kookaburra in early November. The full range will be available to purchase either in store or online from mid November so watch this space.
